The food service business is a Batteh family tradition. I am a third generation restauranteur/café owner, following in the footsteps of my grandfather and father.
As children, my siblings and I grew up in the sandwich shop business, helping our parents with whatever was needed from clearing tables, to mopping floors, to grilling burgers and making sandwiches. You can say, we started from the ground up.
After graduating from Florida State University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and International Business, I worked in the insurance industry for a year until returning to the family business.
I managed a local franchise restaurant that my father had purchased in 1994 until it was sold in 2005. Then I joined my brother in running the café in the former University Hospital Learning Resource Medical Building until I ventured on my own with a café in Memorial Hospital’s Medical Office Building.
I then moved back downtown where I owned and managed the Atrium Café & Grill located in the lobby of the Wells Fargo Building for 15 years and sold the business in 2016. In addition, I also owned Centurion Café & Grill in the CIT Building since 2011.
One of the main things I learned from my father is that the customer is always right, and that has been my goal in every one of my business ventures. Serving high quality fresh food at affordable prices and excellent service in a clean, friendly and comfortable environment are the main ingredients of my business — something I will not compromise. That’s my commitment to you.
